My Partner Program Baseline Template (Free)
Nov 28, 2024In my 18 years of doing partnerships, there's one questions that always inevitably comes up in leadership meetings regarding partner strategy:
"What are other companies doing?"
It’s a great question—and a tricky one.
Leaders naturally want to benchmark their strategy against others to ensure they’re competitive and not missing out.
But here’s the thing: while it’s helpful to know what others are doing, your program’s success isn’t about copying someone else’s playbook.
The real magic happens when you focus on your customers needs, your company's unique goals, partners, and market opportunities.
Other companies’ strategies can inspire ideas, but the best partner programs are tailored to fit your business and deliver results that matter to you.
That said, if you are going to baseline against other companies, you want to make sure you understand the context of that comparison to help drive good business decisions.
For example:
1. Are they in the same product category?
2. Are they similarly sized revenue wise and do they track similarly on revenue growth? Or are they higher by a lot - in which case, they could set an aspirational bar for your company?
3. What partner types do they engage?
4. What % of their revenue is sourced and influenced by partners?
5. Do they share the same economic buyer?
And so on.
To make it easier for you, I created a baseline template that includes 21 attributes you should be thinking about.
I have spent a lot of time ideating on this over the last 18 years...so that you don't have to.
I hope it helps you save time and to get to value faster.
Here's the template, at no cost to you.
Let's go crush it in partnerships together.
Cheers,
Nelson
